Gender, Race, and Politics in the Midwest: Black Club Women in Illinois by Wanda A. Hendricks, During the 30-year period from 1890 to 1920, African American club women in Illinois helped the largest national network of black club women in the country. Hendricks focuses on the Progressive Era, a period of challenges not replicated in other regions of the country. Club women successfully met these challenges by becoming social care health midwest united and political agents of reform care health midwest united and community uplift.
